It's pretty idiotic isn't it? As if it was an international event, like Christmas or something. It could have made some sense if it was asking Americans living abroad how they celebrated in their country of residence, but as it is, it's ridiculous. I'm amazed Live Journal allowed it - you'd think their Russian overlords would object! :D

I thought it was "the day those damned colonials got uppity..."

Independents Day is a good idea for anybody. But the question isn't necessarily chauvinistic to the US -- Mexico has Cinco de Mayo, Canada has Canada Day (July 1, which makes for a staggered long weekend that's equally inconvenient for everyone visiting across the border) and I know Russia has something in... I think it's October, it's been a long time since World History in high school.)
