I am very much indebted to Chris Smith for introducing me to Etherpad, I know the thought of writing in public scares most of you shitless, and it did me, at first but now I’m enjoying it. I don’t invite everyone in like I did that first time, just a few people, the same people who are reading the book as I finish the chapters, but it’s good to get instant feedback – and there’s a couple of extra eyes to spot inconsistencies and stuff like “Jude reached for his sneakers.”

Only kidding, he wouldn’t be seen dead in anything less than Victorian Nike.

I’m getting a routine too, slowly. (about time, after a year not working, eh?) I write from 12ish to 1 and Chris waves the pom poms and the whip of procrastination, then she writes in her lunch break and I throw peanuts from the gallery.

The thing is, I was chatting to Sleveen earlier and telling her how much it has helped me, because if there’s someone watching I have to write, and not goof off and go and do something else.  Then I said “It probably is something in my nature – it’s a famous family legend that I refused to walk as a child, and then my parents discovered that I would only walk when people applauded.”

I think that says everything about me that you need to know.

And – oh good grief isn’t Race Wank over YET?. Who the heck made you the Race Fairy?
